About the Phi Alpha Theta Society:

Phi Alpha Theta is a prominent member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS). We are a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of History through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among Historians.

We seek to bring students, teachers and writers of History together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist Historical research and publication by our members in a variety of ways including conferences, scholarships, publication opportunities, and social events.

*Membership is not limited to majors and minors in history. Anyone who meets the requirements is invited to apply*

Requirements for Membership
Undergraduate Students:
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0; 
  • Have a minimum Histroy GPA of 3.1; and
  • Have at least 12 hours of completed history courses

Graduate Students:

  • Have a mimimum History GPA of 3.5 GPA;
  • Completed approximately 30% of degree credit requirements; and
  • Have no failing grades

Membership Dues:

  • One time fee of $50 for lifetime membership
  • Chapter fee of $10 due each fall

How to Apply

Fill out the Phi Alpha Theta Membership Application.

Obtain an unofficial transcript.

Email the application and transcipt to the secretary, or submit them online using the Microsoft Form .
